This recipe for crock pot teriyaki chicken is perfect for those days when you know you won't have time to make dinner. Since it can be left to cook, all you have to do is shred the chicken and serve it up!

Everyone loves this dish since it is full of all of those traditional teriyaki flavors. Just without all of the unnecessary sugar and carbs.

If you are looking for a simple yet flavorful dish to try out, this is a great option! It's perfect for adding to your monthly rotation of easy meals to make.

Ingredients Needed For Crock Pot Teriyaki Chicken

To make this keto-friendly slow cooker teriyaki chicken, you will need the following ingredients.

    Chicken

For this recipe, you will need boneless and skinless chicken breasts and thighs. These types of chicken are tender and moist and will cook to perfection in the crock pot.

    Keto Teriyaki Sauce

You will need a low-carb teriyaki sauce for your chicken. I used my own recipe for teriyaki sauce which you can also use. It's so easy to make!

Or, you could buy a keto-friendly teriyaki sauce online if you want to make the prep work even quicker.

    Chicken Broth

We will need plenty of chicken broth as this is what the chicken will be cooking in. If it was just cooked in the teriyaki sauce, it would end up becoming dry and tough.

Having plenty of liquid in the pot is key to getting amazingly moist chicken!

    Garnish

You will want to have a garnish of sesame seeds and chopped green onion for this dish. These two ingredients pair perfectly with this crock pot teriyaki chicken.

The sesame seeds add a nutty flavor and slight crunch, while green onion adds freshness.

Please note: Check out the recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients used to make this low-carb recipe.

    Quick Tips:

    • If you are not a big fan of chicken, you can always swap it out for pork or beef. I highly recoomend cooking a pork butt or shoulder in the slow cooker.
    • To make this recipe spicy, add a teaspoon or two of srircha or garlic chili paste.

How To Make This Keto Teriyaki Chicken In The Crock Pot

This delicious slow cooker teriyaki chicken recipe is so fast and simple to make! For the full list of instructions, scroll to the bottom of the post where the recipe card is.

    Combine Ingredients In Slow Cooker

Add your cuts of chicken to the bottom of the crock pot, then combine the broth with the teriyaki sauce.

    Cook Chicken

Set your crock pot to low and let it cook for 6 to 8 hours with the lid firmly on. Check it around the 6-hour mark just to make sure everything is cooking well and isn't drying out.

    Shred and Serve

After the chicken has completely cooked through, remove it from the pot and shred it finely. Add the shredded chicken back to the crock pot and mix it with the sauce.

Serve hot with sesame seeds and chopped green onion on top as a garnish!

What To Serve With Slow Cooker Teriyaki Chicken

This keto teriyaki chicken is full of flavor and goes well with a variety of side dishes!

Try serving it with Chinese cauliflower pork fried rice or an Asian-inspired zucchini salad.

If you don't have time for an elaborate side dish, you could just serve it on top of plain cauliflower rice as well!

Frequently Asked Questions About Crock Pot Teriyaki Chicken

Before we get into the full recipe, here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.

Can I cook this crock pot teriyaki chicken for less than six hours?

Generally, chicken can take as little as 4 hours to cook in the crock pot on the low setting. This can obviously fluctuate according to the slow cooker model and size of the chicken.

You probably could cook the chicken for less time than 6 hours, but I have never tried it. The chicken should be cooked for at least 4 hours I wouldn't recommend trying to cook it any faster than that.

If you are in a hurry, you could try cooking it on a medium setting, but that could dry the chicken out as well as thicken the sauce too much.

    Can I use frozen chicken?

Yes! You can definitely use frozen chicken for this recipe. Just make sure that you use chicken breasts and thighs that are skinless and boneless.

You can either let them think out slightly beforehand or let them cook for 20 to 30 minutes extra. Just make sure to check them after the 6-hour mark just to be safe!

Can I cook this chicken without a crock pot?

If you do not have a crock pot but still want to make this crock pot teriyaki chicken there are a few things you can do.

You can cook the chicken on the stovetop instead, or you can boil it. Either way will work, and you can shred it after it has cooked.

To make the sauce, you can reduce the majority of the chicken broth and heat the teriyaki sauce on the stove until it is boiling. Then, add in the chicken and serve as usual.

This will not be as flavorful or tender, but it will still taste delicious if you are in a hurry or don't have a crock pot.

You could do it in an Instant Pot slow cook setting. Pressure cooking would likely be about 11 to 27 minutes on high pressure depending on the size of the chicken pieces.
