Ready for a rich, delicious chocolate pudding that is paleo-friendly, packed with healthy fats, and takes less than 5 minutes to make? I have just the recipe for you.

The idea for making creamy treats from avocado has been around for a while. It's no secret they are the key to a delicious keto avocado smoothie.

Since they are perfect for getting a thick and rich texture in shakes, I thought I'd try it in a pudding. Chocolate avocado pudding has been around for a while but most are loaded with sugar or sweeteners that aren't keto friendly.

The pudding has also gotten a bit of a bad reputation. This is because some recipes don’t have the right ingredients to cover the avocado taste. No matter how much you love avocado, a bad tasting pudding can turn you off right away.

With the right flavor combination, this is a decadent and healthy dessert for those on a keto diet.

    Why you'll love it

This is the best chocolate avocado pudding because there's no sugar added in the recipe. It's the perfect dessert that will satisfy any sweet tooth craving without making you feel guilty.

In fact, it will make you feel the opposite of guilt. It’s a dessert that’s actually good for you! And with the dreamy texture and bold flavor, it may just become your go-to low carb treat.

    Ingredients

The best thing about this easy chocolate avocado pudding recipe is that you only need 5 simple ingredients to make your pudding. I'll even share a couple variations and swaps you can make.

    Avocados

Start with two soft and very ripe avocados. This recipe will not work with avocados that are not ripe yet, because they will not give us the right texture.

    Almond milk

Make sure you use unsweetened almond milk. You can also use vanilla flavored as long as there's no added sugar. Coconut milk or coconut cream is a great alternative. You can even use a 50/50 mix of heavy cream and water if you don't need it to be dairy-free.

    Cocoa powder

Regular unsweetened cocoa powder is fine to use. But I recommend using a dark cocoa for a richer color and flavor. You can even use raw cacao powder.

    Sweetener

My preferred keto sweetener is liquid stevia or monk fruit. However, any of the keto sweeteners you have on hand will work well for this easy chocolate avocado pudding. If you aren't following a low-carb eating plan, maple syrup or agave syrup can be used for paleo.

    Vanilla

Adding vanilla extract is a great way to enhance the flavor and add a touch of sweetness. You can cut back on the amount if you use a vanilla flavored liquid sweetener or vanilla almond milk.

    avocado pudding ingredients

Please note: Check out the recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients used to make this low-carb recipe.

    Quick tips

Use dark cocoa. For a rich chocolate flavor, I recommend using dark cocoa for this chocolate avocado pudding. Personally, I like the stronger taste and color because it's hard to tell there’s avocado in the pudding.

Add in espresso. This recipe also has the option to add instant espresso powder. Espresso is known for enhancing chocolate flavor, so I knew it would be perfect in this recipe. It really adds to the richness of the chocolate.

Purée well. It's best to use a food processor or blender to make sure all the ingredients are well combined. Otherwise, you won't achieve the silky smooth texture.

Make it dairy-free and nut-free. Use coconut milk or coconut cream for a creamy pudding without any dairy or nuts. You can even top it with coconut whipped cream!

    Instructions

It takes very little work to make chocolate avocado pudding. It just takes a little time to process and requires no cooking time.

For the full list of instructions, scroll to the bottom of this post.

    Prepare the avocados

Cut avocados in half, remove the pit from each, then use a spoon to scrape the flesh out into a blender or food processor.

    ingredients in food processor

    Purée

Add almond milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, stevia drops, vanilla extract, and instant espresso powder to the blender or food processor.

Process together until the ingredients are well combined into a creamy pudding texture. You want to keep processing until there are no more avocado lumps.

    ingredients blended in food processor

    Chill

The pudding is best served chilled. I like to divide into four dessert dishes, then cover and refrigerate.

    ️ Serving suggestions

Want to take your chocolate avocado pudding to the next level? Here are a few delicious ideas:

    • Top it off! Sprinkle on a few of my homemade sugar free chocolate chips or sugar free peanut butter chips over your pudding… you could even try both.
    • Add sauces or syrups. I recommend drizzling with peanut butter topping or sugar free caramel sauce for a truly yummy treat.
    • You can never go wrong with some fresh whipped cream.
    • Use the pudding as a layer in a caramel chocolate trifle! Start with a batch of my 5 Ingredient Keto Brownies, cut into 1 inch cubes. Lay half of the cubes on the bottom of a trifle dish or large glass bowl. Layer whipped cream, chocolate avocado pudding, and sugar free caramel sauce, then repeat the layers to finish the trifle.

There are so many different ways to enjoy this chocolate pudding. You can even freeze it into a chocolate avocado ice cream!

    FAQs

This is a pretty simple recipe, and all of the details are in the printable card at the bottom of this post. First, here are some questions people often ask about making this creamy pudding!

What's in Kourtney Kardashian's avocado pudding?

The reality star has made this treat super popular. But her recipe isn't a keto-friendly one. It contains avocado, cane sugar, whole milk, and Manuka honey.

What are the benefits of eating this style of pudding?

Antioxidants from the dark cocoa plus healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and fiber from the avocado make this a healthy recipe. Using keto-friendly ingredients makes it a guilt-free treat for weight loss.

    Can you freeze the pudding?

One of the best things about this pudding is that it freezes really well. So you can store the leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer.

How long does it last in the refrigerator?

Your chocolate avocado pudding should last up to 5 days in the refrigerator when stored in a sealed container.

So good! I used unsweetened cocoa powder and almost 1/4 c monk fruit but I don’t think it needed that much. I’ll put less next time. Topped it with a little natural peanut butter and dark choc chips. Thanks for sharing this! Definitely hit the spot!

Thumbs up. I tweaked it, but the recipe served as a good base to start with. I dialed backed the dark cocoa because I didn't want such a huge caffeine hit & I also wanted to reduce the argenine; so I used a heaping 1/4 cup instead; next time I might try regular cocoa rather than the dark in attempt to make it more milky & less bitter. I also used cream instead of almond milk b/c I dislike all plant-based milk as it doesn't work for me. I also added 1 - 2 Tbsp of agave to make it taste like a true sweet chocolate pudding.

I know. I know that the agave brings the carb count up, but I just kept my serving size in check. And for me, it is what it took for me to get that real chocolate pudding experience & once the craving had been met, I was satisfied. Don't have to go searching for something else to satisfy my sweet tooth. Plus I rather eat this with all its nutrients, rather than conventional gmo filled sugar & cornstarch. 💙

I liked it after I added extra agave. It was a little bitter. I’m not a fan of stevia so easy substitute.

I also played around a bit. Added a tsp of cinnamon and a pinch of chipotle powder. Kind of a Mexican chocolate flair to it. You might like it.

Texture is perfect, but way too much cocoa powder makes it bitter! Other recipes call for half that amount! I’m going to try and doctor it to get rid of the bitterness.

I just made this. I'm actually eating it right now. Wanted to try it before printing the recipe. This one is going in the KEEP folder! Wow!! Super smooth great chocolate flavor. No hint of avocado. I didn't have espresso powder so I used instant coffee instead. This would make a great frosting as well.

I haven't, but it shouldn't be too hard to do. This pudding recipe could probably be modified for it. You'd just need some pistachio flavoring to add instead of the cocoa for the pudding part. Then I'd add a nut based crust and some keto whipped cream topping.

Wow, 5 minutes after I read this recipe, it was done. The texture is just like "regular" pudding which is so much harder to make. I used Swerve and added some homemade coffee concentrate to it. Definitely a keeper. thanks for the post.

Granular should be okay, but just be careful not to add too much or it can crystalize.
