Who doesn’t love snacking on some gummies?

Now, you can enjoy them any time you like with this keto gummy bears recipe! These gummies are made with zero carb, low calorie ingredients for guilt-free snacking. Plus, they’re made with healthy gelatin.

When I created this recipe, I really wanted a bear shape. I ended up buying this Candy maker at Amazon because it was the only mold I could find.

The size of the bears are probably twice the size of regular gummy bears. But it makes it much easier for pouring the liquid in.

It also comes with molds for worms and fish, which are closer to normal size. So I think it’s a great option for making gummy shaped candies.

Once you have your mold, it’s so easy to make sugar free gummies right at home. Simply heat your liquid, stir in the gelatin and sweetener, add any desired extract, then pour into the molds to set. The whole process takes 10 minutes or less!

    Flavor Options

Most commercially available gummy bears are full of sugar and artificial flavors. This is just one of the reasons I prefer to make my own.

I like to use an herbal fruit tea that has zero carbs or calories to flavor my gummies. However, any fruit flavored drink or clear juice (like apple juice) can be substituted for the tea as the liquid in this recipe.

Stevia sweetened vitamin water would work well. Since it’s already sweetened, you would want to reduce or omit the extra sweetener in the recipe.

Adding a tiny bit of citric acid or lemon juice will give you sour gummies instead.

How to Make Low Carb Gummy Bears

This keto gummy bear recipe is so simple. I love throwing a batch together to keep in my fridge for easy snacking all week!

First, brew your tea. (If you’re using pre-made liquid, like fruit juice, skip to step 3)

    1. Steep tea bags in hot boiling water for about 6 minutes.
    2. Squeeze the tea out of the tea bags, then discard the bags.
    3. Pour one cup of tea into a small sauce pan on the stove.
    heated liquid and molds

Next, add the gelatin and pour the gummies.

    1. Whisk the gelatin and sweetener into the sauce pan.
    2. Heat and stir the gelatin mixture over medium heat until the liquid is thin and there are no gelatin clumps.
    3. Remove the sauce pan from heat and stir in the fruit extract.
    4. Pour the liquid into silicone molds.
    5. Place the molds in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to set.

Your keto gummies are now ready to enjoy!

Once you remove them from the mold, I recommend storing them in the refrigerator. They will stay fresh for up to a week. You can also freeze them for longer storage.

Can you buy sugar free gummies?

There are a few brands that carry sugar free, low-carb gummies. However, I haven't found any that don't cause digestive issues or stomach discomfort for me, or aren't (at best) a mix of natural and artificial flavors.

Smart Sweets is one of the most popular sellers of sugar free candy. They sell bears, sweet fish gummies, peach rings, and more. But the fiber sweetener used in them is known to impact blood sugar levels so I don't recommend them.

Other brands use maltitol as a sweetener which isn't keto friendly. That's why I prefer to use my sugar-free gummy bears recipe. It doesn’t have any impacting carbs and is very budget friendly.

    sugar-free gummy bears recipe

How many can you eat at a time

Your serving size is going to depend on the gummy molds that you use. With the mold I use, I consider 4 pieces a serving, and this keto gummy bears recipe makes 12 total servings.

At that size, each serving is 15 calories, 4 grams of protein, and zero carbs. How great is that?

Even if you ate the whole recipe in one sitting, it will only be 180 calories! But keep in mind that it would also be 48 grams of protein.

Since these gummies are so low in calories and carbs, you can really eat as many as you want. Just make sure you don’t overdo it on the protein.

    Carbs in these homemade gummies

The carbs in this keto gummies recipe will depend on what liquid you use. If you use an herbal fruit tea or other zero carb drink, then your snack will be zero carbs!

These gummies are one of my favorite snacks to keep in the fridge. They’re a fun way to eat more healthy gelatin, plus they have zero carbs and very low calories.

When it comes to macros, they are pretty much a “free” snack. So give this sugar free gummy bears recipe a try for a guiltless sweet treat.

Most grocery stores sell a few different flavors. If you can't find the flavor you want, a store that sells candy making supplies should have options.

That seems like a lot of extract for 1 1/3 cups of water... I'm a pastry chef and I would use 1 tsp of raspberry extract for about 8 cups of frosting...

I would recommend lining the pan so you can remove the set gelatin easily. But you can make one big one and cut it up.

      Hi Lisa,

I have gestational diabetes and was wondering...are tou supposed to heat the juice up before you add the gelatin to it? If so, you dissolve the gelatin and then pour into the molds and then refrigerate to set. Are those about the instructions? I see you made notes on substituting juice for tea but didn't really explain any possible difference in cooking instructions...thank you!

Since the tea is hot, it's best to heat the juice up in the pan before adding in the gelatin. You want the gelatin powder to completely dissolve before pouring into the molds.

Will they melt once you make them ...say you take them on a paper/plastic (snack) bag say on a 4 day trip (supposing you don't eat the all the first day). I live on a semi-dessert /dessert climate so on hot days (about 46ºF) will they melt? or stand the heat just like the commercial brands

They won't melt. The gelatin stays hardened.

You say 2oz gelatin or 4 packages, but packages are only 1/4oz. So 4 packages would only be 1oz. Is it 1oz or 2oz? That's a big difference and I really want to make these asap.

I weigh out 2 ounces of gelatin. But I'm pretty sure with the packets, you can use a little less than the grass-fed kind in a can.

I did it the wrong way. I did the math and figured I would need 8 packets of gelatin bc she said 2 oz..and they are like chewing rubber! Next time I guess I'll do 4 packets.

Sugar free jello should work but I'm not a fan of the chemicals that are usually added. I haven't used the acid for sour flavors so I'm unable to provide an amount.

It's the sugar alcohol they use that causes that effect. Homemade ones won't do that unless you use a sweetener that has that problem.

They should last at least a week in the fridge without molding. Anything longer may require freezing, but I'm not sure how they would do after thawing.

Not gonna lie, I tried a vegan version twice and it was absolutely terrible. The first time I figured I just messed up the flavoring and it would be okay if I fixed that, but no. If you're expecting regular a regular gummy bear texture, it's not going to work because the texture is more like slimy jello. Though I suppose the gelatin version might be the same way; the only recipe I've seen for homemade gummy bears that explicitly claim to have a gummy bear texture called for citric acid and a bunch of other things so I suspect it's a bit more complex to get it just right. I'm sure I will find lots of cute uses for these gummy bear molds though!

Adding citric acid is more for flavor than texture. I've used it and they do taste better.

I think I used the wrong flavoring... The tea wasn't bitter, I only used 2 bags, and left it overnight. The tea tasted very flavorful, and sweet, with a tang. I used stevia, and monk fruit, and a raspberry flavoring that I had here.. They were terribly bitter. I can't use allulose, sucralose,or sugar alcohols. what would you use. I was excited to make these. What flavoring brand do you use? Olive Nation??? I know NOW that it was the flavoring... The flavoring tasted like alcohol, with a bit of flower taste. I threw it out, and will try again...What is the brand of flavoring you use, please?
