    Ingredients needed

Here's everything that goes into this quick and easy spinach frittata recipe:

    Eggs

The base of any frittata is, of course, eggs!

I love cooking egg dishes on a keto diet because they're versatile, filling, and low-carb.

    Heavy cream

A bit of heavy cream adds extra fat content to this dish while giving it an extra creamy texture.

    Spinach

A nutritious powerhouse, spinach is a fabulous keto ingredient. It’s also a great way to sneak vegetables into dishes for picky eaters because it cooks down so well.

I use fresh spinach in this frittata, though you can also use frozen spinach. Just remember to squeeze out as much liquid as possible before adding it to your dish!

    Cheese

For a cheesy addition, I combine crumbled goat cheese and freshly grated parmesan cheese in this dish.

You can always substitute for your favorite cheese blend or whatever you have on hand.

    Seasoning

To season this keto frittata, I combine kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder; it's a simple combination that always works!

    Olive oil

Optionally, you can add a bit of olive oil to your skillet to prevent sticking when baking.

This step also adds a bit of extra fat content (you're welcome, macros!).

    Cooking tips

    • Customize your frittata with the seasonings and low-carb vegetables of your choice.
    • Use an oven-safe skillet that can withstand a minimum of 350°F.
    • Adjust your cooking time as necessary, aiming for a lightly golden crust on the top of your frittata.

How to make keto spinach frittata

Making this spinach frittata is super easy. Here's how to do it!

    Step 1: Preheat the oven

First up, preheat your oven to 350°F.

    Step 2: Prepare the spinach

Next, add baby spinach to a skillet and sauté for a few minutes until the spinach wilts. You'll want to let it cool until adding it to the rest of your ingredients.

    Step 3: Whisk the eggs

To prepare your eggs, whisk them along with heavy cream in a large bowl.

    Step 4: Season and combine

Now, add crumbled goat cheese, grated parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to your egg mixture.

Mix thoroughly, then fold in your cooled spinach.

Step 5: Bake and enjoy spinach frittata

And just like that, your dish is ready to bake!

Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium heat and add your egg and spinach mixture. Feel free to use a bit of olive oil to prevent sticking.

Then, place the skillet in the oven and bake your frittata until it is set and lightly golden brown on top. Remove and enjoy!

How to serve keto spinach frittata

My keto spinach frittata makes an excellent, shareable meal, feeding your family dinner in 30 minutes flat!

For a nutritious pairing, I recommend serving this frittata with a side of cooked vegetables like my air fryer mushrooms, oven-roasted asparagus, or bell peppers and eggplant.

If you prefer fresh veggies, serve it with a simple side salad like my spinach strawberry salad with vinaigrette or keto cucumber tomato salad.

A side of fresh berries or other keto fruit also pairs particularly well.

For a heartier option, serve spinach frittata with a starchy dish of mashed turnips or roasted radishes or a light soup like cream of asparagus or keto vegetable soup. And don't forget a slice of crusty keto bread and butter!

Finally, offer several toppings options with your frittata including thick slices of avocado, homemade keto salsa, full-fat sour cream, and fresh herbs like chives or cilantro.

    Recipe variations

    • Try different cheese combinations like gouda, cheddar, and gruyere.
    • Swap baby spinach for shredded kale if you prefer.
    • Add low-carb vegetables like chopped mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini, or baby tomatoes.

    Frequently asked questions

These are the questions I get most about making keto frittata. If I don't answer your question here, please leave it in the comments down below.

What are the best fillings for keto spinach frittata?

The best part of frittata is that you're meant to use it as a "clear-the-fridge meal." In other words, go wild with the fillings!

Try adding low-carb vegetables like asparagus, bell peppers, mushrooms, kale, zucchini, spinach, and baby tomatoes.
I also love using chopped sun-dried tomatoes (in moderation).

You can even add ground meats, seafood, and a variety of cheese blends; the options are unlimited!

Should I use fresh or frozen spinach in my frittata recipe?

Both fresh and frozen spinach will work in this frittata recipe, though frozen spinach requires an extra step.

Here's what you'll need to do if you opt for frozen vs. fresh.
    - First, take your spinach out to dethaw.
    - Once your frozen spinach has thawed and cooked down, add it to a fine-mesh strainer and squeeze out as much water as possible; this will keep your quiche from getting watery!
