    Why you'll love it

Simple syrup holds the power to make any cocktail super tasty – even if you're not an alcohol lover!

Classic simple syrup is made from regular white sugar, making it far from keto-approved. My sugar-free simple syrup recipe, however, lets you enjoy a versatile sweetener without exceeding your net carbs.

Keto simple syrup is an amazing ingredient to add to any of your favorite cocktails. But if you're not a drinker, don't scroll away just yet!

This keto simple syrup can be used for more than alcohol. Add this homemade simple syrup to sweeten an iced tea, coffee, or mocktail.

You can also use it to poach keto-friendly fruits or drizzle it on top of some fresh berries for a sweet treat.

Try this homemade keto simple syrup recipe for yourself with just a few ingredients and step-by-step instructions. After trying it, you'll never go back to a traditional simple syrup again!

    Ingredients

    keto simple syrup ingredients

My keto simple syrup recipe requires just three easy ingredients.

    Powdered sugar alternative

The basis of your keto simple syrup is an alternative to regular sugar.

Powdered sugar alternatives work really well in this recipe because they dissolve easily when added to water for a seamless blend.

There are several powdered sweeteners on the market that fit a keto diet - one of the most popular varieties uses monk fruit to sweeten!

Monk fruit sweetener dissolves easily and gives you the sweetness you need. It also has zero net carbs and calories and is even sweeter than regular sugar.

    Xanthan gum

To thicken your keto simple syrup, you'll want to add a bit of xanthan gum to your recipe.

Xanthan gum is a super common food thickener that is also suitable for a keto diet.

    Water

Your final ingredient is the most basic – water!

It is used to dissolve your sweetener and make it perfectly pourable.

    Tips

    • Experiment with different keto sweeteners. Monk fruit is tried and true, but there are tons of cool sweeteners available on the market.
    • Whisk xanthan gum well to avoid clumps!
    • Make it ahead of time. Your keto simple syrup will last for 1-2 weeks. Prep it in advance, so you already have it when inspiration strikes.

    Instructions

This super easy recipe is a must-try if you follow a keto diet. It's quick and inexpensive to make. Plus, it goes a long way!

Here's a bit of information on how I make keto simple syrup from home.

    Combine water and powdered sweetener

To begin, add two cups of distilled water to a small saucepan. Heat the pan over medium heat while you add in your powdered sweetener.

    Whisk until your sweetener dissolves.

Once the mixture is completely combined, bring it to a boil.

    Whisk in xanthan gum

Reduce your heat to medium/low and slowly mix in your xanthan gum. This is going to help your keto simple syrup thicken.

Simmer your syrup for five more minutes.

    Let it cool

And just like that, your low-carb simple syrup is complete!

Remove it from its heat source and let it sit until it has cooled completely. Once cooled, store it in the fridge or serve immediately.

    Serving suggestions

Keto simple syrup isn't just for cocktails (though it does one right!). Use this homemade simple syrup in any drink you want to add a little something sweet too.

A classic keto simple syrup will make your morning iced coffee or matcha latte that much more delicious.

When the mood strikes, enhance your skinny margarita or sparkling limeade mocktail with a bit of monk fruit sweetener.

And for the everyday drink, add a flavored keto simple syrup to cucumber mint-infused water to make a treat out of the ordinary!

    Variations

    • Add raspberries or blackberries to your mixtures while they boil for flavored syrups! Make sure to strain out the berries before you let it cool completely.
    • Try erythritol or stevia for alternative powdered sweeteners that still fit the keto diet.
    • Include fresh lemon juice in your syrup for extra flavor.

    FAQs

Here are a few frequently asked questions I get about my sugar-free simple syrup recipe. If you don't see your question answered, please leave it for me in the comments down below.

Are sugar-free syrups ok on keto?

Sugar-free syrups are generally ok on a keto diet because they have low net carbs and don't spike blood sugar.
That being said, they can contain some unsavory ingredients you might not want in your diet. Play it safe by making your own sugar-free syrups from home – it's super easy!

Does monk fruit caramelize like sugar?

Monk fruit is one of the most impressive keto sugar alternatives because it can actually brown and caramelize, just like regular sugar.
Next time you're looking to caramelize some onions, remember that monk fruit is your friend.

What can I use instead of sugar syrup in cocktails?

While my number one recommendation would be my keto simple syrup recipe (hint hint), there are some other good alternatives.
Try creative garnishes like muddled mint leaves or berries. Add a splash of lemon or lime juice. And, of course, a sugar-free simple syrup.

Is monk fruit a keto syrup?

You bet ya it is. Well, it can be! Monk fruit can be easily turned into a keto syrup by heating and dissolving its powdered form.
Because monk fruit has zero carbs in any of its forms, it makes for a fantastic keto syrup alternative.
