Most people have heard of Bulletproof Coffee or keto coffee, but what's the option for those that don't drink caffeine? Is it any good to make it with tea?

Well, I set out to give it a try because I stopped drinking coffee about a month ago. On the AIP elimination diet, no seeds are allowed and coffee is considered a seed.

I'm feeling a lot better after a month of being on the elimination diet. So much, that I'm only going to consume nuts and seeds on occasion. And, I decided to avoid dairy for good.

When making my Bulletproof tea, I didn't add any butter or ghee. Instead, I used some coconut oil and canned coconut milk to make it completely dairy-free.

    How to make Bulletproof tea

A lot of people like to use MCT oil in keto coffee. I usually have some on hand, but decided to just use regular virgin coconut oil instead since it's cheaper and easier to find.

They have started to sell liquid coconut cooking oil in my local grocery store with the other cooking oils. The bottle states that it contains 5 times more MCT than the regular oil.

I may try using the higher MCT oil in my Bulletproof tea. It's a lot cheaper than buying MCT oil which is derived from coconut oil.

As you can see, there are tons of options for making the popular keto coffee or tea. If you are a tea drinker like me, there's even more options depending on the tea you prefer.

    Keto bulletproof tea

I'm avoiding caffeine so my tea of preference is rooibos. And, I've ben using the loose leaf tea that contains a chai spice blended in.

Other great teas to use are yerba mate, green tea, black tea, oolong tea, or pu-erh tea. You can even mix a couple teas to make this warm keto drink.

Another thing I like to add to my Bulletproof tea is collagen peptides which is one way to get adequate amino acids in your diet.

Although you could add in butter or ghee to give a nice creamy taste, I've been using a little bit of full fat coconut milk. Without dairy in my diet, I've found that coconut milk is an excellent replacement.

A lot of people whip up their Bulletproof coffee in a blender. But, I prefer mixing it in the mug using a milk frother. That way, you won't have to worry about washing another container. I love the frothy top that results, and the frother is a lot more portable for taking to work.

I also like to sprinkle on a little more cinnamon on the top. This is totally optional. It should take no more than ten seconds to whip up this delicious hot beverage after the tea is brewed.

If you aren't a coffee drinker, you should definitely give this recipe a try. I enjoy drinking it each morning shortly after waking up. And, it curbs my hunger so I'll go a few hours before making breakfast.

With so many options, what's your favorite ingredients to use in keto tea or coffee?

This recipe may be a little more work than popping a k-cup into the machine, but it's so worth it! Speaking of k-cups, have you tried the instant LonoLife bone broth for a Keurig?

Enjoy this filling morning breakfast drink. And if you want a little treat with it, try pairing it with some keto blueberry scones or cranberry keto scones.

Bullet proof tea sounds good. Where do you get the collagen peptides? That's a lot of points for weight watchers though. How do you combine the two successfully? I have 23 points a day. I'm trying to go more lowcarb and sugarless.

I do the green plan which allows 30 points a day. There's a lot of salads, turkey, and chicken bread. I also try to incorporate a lot of free low-carb fruits and vegetables. I've gotten the collagen at TJ Maxx and also nutritional stores like Vitamin Shoppe and GNC.

I find using a milk frother will get the fat mixed in better so it doesn't float on the top.

What brand of collagen peptides do you think is the best? I am new to this and there is so many brands out there, I have no idea which one. Thank you in advance.

Coconut is NOT a seed. It's a drupe which is a stone fruit.

What do you do to store the canned coconut milk you don’t use (mason jar?) and how long can you store it after opening the can?

I keep it in a covered container in the fridge. Then, I heat it up on the stove so that it becomes all liquid and blended. You can freeze it for longer storage, but I usually use it up within a week.

Thanks for this! Up until recently, I’ve always used coffee. For whatever reason though, I’ve kind of been off of coffee and instead wanted tea. I didn’t realize you could use tea basically the same way as coffee...and I was too chicken to experiment. Now knowing that tea works too (I made some right after reading this!) it opens the door to more variety of tastes with the same benefits as BPC. Thanks again!

I've always enjoyed tea much more than coffee and find a strong tea works best for this. But it's really flexible to what you prefer.

What is the purpose of the frothing? I can mix with a knife or spoon?
Also, is honey ok to add?

Frothing just makes it a little lighter on top. I do think it's best to use either a frother or blender to mix all the fat in.

For a coffee-like experience, Celestial Seasonings still makes their venerable "Roast Aroma" blend. Caffeine free, with a rich coffee-like flavor. Or at least it lands you in the ballpark if you want a quasi-bulletproof coffee flavor. 🙂

I must try this because I love black tea, but really need something mixed in it and I don't really enjoy coffee later in the day.

I'm wondering about coconut milk though. The BP Road Map has it under beverages, but in the shopping list it's under Fats. What's your take on how much it should be used?
      thanks!

It is a fat and a beverage. I rarely use more than a tablespoon and a serving is like 1/3 cup.

I have started 16:8 intermittent fasting with keto but really need the morning energy- I love coconut milk so I tried the same recipe and love it! I was wondering if anyone else had the same idea! I add pink Himalayan salt to mine instead of cinnamon, it tastes heavenly and it ups the electrolyte content.

There's no need to fear healthy fat on a low carb diet. It's what's used as fuel in place of carbs.
