Why you'll love this creamy avocado sauce

If you're an avocado fan like me, you're going to go crazy for this avocado cream sauce!

Avocado sauce includes all the fresh flavors of guacamole combined with creamy additions for an indulgent dip.

You can use this avocado dipping sauce for any of your favorite low-carb recipes, from keto chips to keto fried chicken!

    creamy avocado sauce dip

In this post, I'm sharing how to make this creamy and ultra-versatile avocado sauce with simple ingredients and just 10 minutes of prep time.

I'm also going to share scrumptious serving suggestions you'll need to try for yourself!

Note: For more dip inspiration, check out all of my low carb sauces, dressings, and condiments.

    Ingredients needed

Here are the fresh and simple ingredients that make up this creamy avocado dip:

    avocado sauce ingredients

    Avocados

The base of this creamy sauce is two ripe avocados.

Avocados are a keto dream food because they're low in carbs, high in healthy fats, and super delicious.

I love including them as a high-fat addition to any recipe that'll have them.

    Tahini

Tahini is made purely from ground sesame seeds – a keto-friendly seed!

It offers a creamy texture to sauces, curries, and more.

    Sour cream

For an extra creamy texture, I included regular sour cream in my avocado sauce recipe.

Note that sour cream is high in saturated fat and can be substituted with Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt if you prefer. Just ensure that the yogurt you choose is unsweetened and low in carbohydrates.

    Cilantro

For a bright flavor, I added fresh cilantro to the mix. It pairs perfectly with avocado!

If you have that pesky cilantro-soap gene, substitute for fresh-chopped parsley.

    Jalapeno

For a bit of heat, include finely chopped jalapeno in your sauce, removing the seeds for a milder spice.

If you're in the mood for a spicy kick, feel free to leave some (or all!) of the seeds intact.

    Garlic

Minced garlic is a simple but effective ingredient, adding a ton of flavor with minimal effort.

This recipe calls for one clove (but I know you'll add an extra).

    Lime

Fresh lime juice is essential in any avocado dish. Beyond a fantastic flavor combination, the acidity helps your avocados keep green for longer.

    Salt and pepper

Finally, a bit of kosher salt and black pepper bring all of the ingredients together.

    Dip sauce tips

With just 10 minutes of prep time, this creamy avocado sauce is almost too easy to throw together. Here are a few quick tips to help:

    • To prevent leftover avocado sauce from browning, store it in a container with plastic wrap pulled tight to the sauce. This will seal out the air!
    • For easy chopping, add whole ingredients to a food processor or high-speed blender.
    • Taste your sauce before adding salt and pepper for the perfect balance.

How to make creamy avocado sauce

Here are the easy steps it takes to make the perfect avocado sauce:

    Mash avocados

First, you'll want to mash your avocado in a bowl with a fork or potato masher to the consistency of your liking. Smooth or slightly chunky works.

    Add creamy extras

Next, add creamy additions, including tahini and sour cream, mixing well to combine.

    adding tahini and greek yogurt

    Season and mix

To season your puree, add your mixture into a blender or food processor along with jalapeno, garlic, lime juice, and cilantro.

adding herbs and garlic to food processor

Mix until everything is smooth and creamy!

Adjust and serve creamy avocado sauce

Finally, season your creamy avocado sauce with salt and black pepper and give it another mix. Taste your sauce and adjust the seasonings to your liking.

Serve it up with your favorite low-carb tortilla chips, or store it in an airtight container for later use.

What to serve with creamy avocado sauce

This creamy sauce was made specifically with chips in mind! But instead of high-carb potato or tortilla chips, enjoy them alongside radish chips, low-carb tortilla chips, or oven-baked zucchini chips.

    herby avocado dip with radishes

Pairing this avocado sauce with a medley of dips, chips, and fresh veggies also sounds delicious! Include queso keto cheese dip, Chuy's jalapeno ranch dip, and keto buffalo chicken dip in your spread.

    veggie board with avocado dip

For full meals, try drizzling this creamy avocado sauce over your favorite bowls like a keto burrito bowl, sausage egg roll in a bowl, or a keto Korean ground beef bowl.

Finally, this sauce would work wonderfully as a bright salad dressing for my keto southwest chicken salad, baby kale salad with avocado, or keto cobb salad with chicken.

    Avocado sauce variations

This recipe is super versatile. Try any of these fun variations:

    • For a chunkier, homestyle texture, mash your avocado with a fork and mix your ingredients by hand rather than a mixer.
    • Make your creamy sauce spicy with extra jalapeno or habanero peppers. For a milder sauce, substitute for Anaheim peppers.
    • Substitute sour cream for Greek yogurt, cream cheese, or coconut yogurt. Just watch the carbs!

    FAQs

Here are a few questions I often get about this homemade avocado sauce recipe. If you don't spot the answer to your question in this list, just leave it in the comments.

Are creamy avocado sauce and guacamole the same thing?

Guacamole is made with fresh avocado, diced onion, tomato, lime juice, and simple seasonings.

Avocado sauce is super similar, though it is blended until smooth and resembles an avocado crema. It will include a creamy element like Greek yogurt, cream cheese, or sour cream, which is what makes it different from standard guac.

What condiment is best for avocado?

Avocado pairs wonderfully with condiments, including lime juice, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper.

Other tasty toppings include paprika, sriracha, and red chili flakes.
