Are you ready to get spooky? Whip up a batch of these keto mummy hot dogs made with all-beef franks, keto pastry dough, and cream cheese!

Why you'll love these keto mummy hot dogs

Have you ever seen anything as cute and seasonal as these Halloween mummy hot dogs?

This halloween season, you can bake these hot dog mummies with just 15 minutes of prep time. They're savory, flavorful, and definitely kid-approved!

Plus, if you're feeling creative, you can customize your hot dog mummies any way you'd like! Add silly expressions, cheesy additions, or anything else that tickles your fancy.

But without further ado, let's get baking!

dipping hot dog mummy in mustard.

    Ingredients needed

Here are the simple ingredients that come together to make mummy hot dogs:

ingredients needed to make mummy hot dogs.

    Beef hot dogs

The base of this recipe is all-beef franks because they're low in carbs and keto-friendly.

Ensure the hot dogs you choose don't include any high-carb fillers, sugars, or any other ingredients that would affect your ketosis.

    Keto pastry dough

For the mummy wrapping, this recipe uses keto pastry dough. You can make your own or try a store-bought version like keto crescent rolls.

    Cream cheese

To create your sweet mummy faces, I use cream cheese to pipe on the eyes.

    Seasoning

For seasoning, all you need is salt and peppercorns.

Sprinkle a bit of flaky sea salt over your finished mummy hot dogs to bring out all of the combined flavors.

I also used peppercorns to make the pupil in the center of each cream cheese eye.

    Egg

Finally, I use an egg wash to help get the keto mummy wrapping a beautiful golden brown.

    Baking tips

    • Remember to preheat the oven for an even bake.
    • When using store-bought pastry dough, follow their baking directions over my recipe's listed time. This will give you a more accurate time.
    • Allow your hotdogs to cool down before adding any cream cheese detailing. You don't want your "mummy eyes" to run!

How to make keto mummy hot dogs

Making these hot dog mummies may look complicated, but they actually only take a few easy steps. Here's how to get the job done:

    Step 1: Preheat the oven

Before we get cooking, you'll want to prep what you can ahead of time.

Start by preheating your oven to 375°F, then line your baking tray with a sheet of parchment paper.

Step 2: Roll out keto dough

Next up, roll out the keto pastry dough onto a floured countertop. You can use pizza dough or crescent roll dough as long as it's low-carb and keto-friendly!

Once rolled, cut your dough into ¼-inch thin strips for the mummy wrapping using a pizza cutter.

Step 3: Wrap the mummy hot dogs

Grab your hotdogs and begin rolling your pastry dough around them in a mismatched, mummy pattern.

using a slice of pastry dough to wrap hot dog.

Make sure that you leave a wider gap at the top of your hot dogs. This is where you'll create your "mummy face" later on.

    Step 4: Brush and bake

Now, place wrapped hot dogs and add them to your baking sheet, finishing them off with an egg wash.

Bake in your oven until the crescent dough has turned into a lightly golden brown.

Step 5: Create your "mummy" faces

Now for the fun part – making the mummy faces!

Remove your hot dogs from the oven and let them cool down for a few minutes before you get decorating. If you try to add the cream cheese when they're hot out of the oven, it's just going to slip right off!

Add your cream cheese to a piping bag or a plastic bag with the corner cut out (just a small snip will do!).

piping cream cheese eyes onto hot dog.

Then, pipe a couple of little cream cheese "eyes" onto each hot dog face and finish them off with black peppercorn pupils.

    adding black peppercorn as eyes.

Step 6: Serve at your halloween party!

And just like that, your adorable mummy hot dogs are ready to enjoy!

Serve them up immediately, or store your leftover hot dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

How to serve mummy hot dogs

Serve your prepared mummy dogs as part of a Halloween party platter!

Finish your platter with tons of yummy keto favorites, with savory options like hot spinach dip and pumpkin deviled eggs.

Then, add sweet options like these 3-ingredient peanut butter cookies and slices of pumpkin bread with cream cheese filling!

Fill in any gaps with keto candy for a classic Halloween addition.

    Variations

    • Wrap cheese slices around your hotdog before adding the pastry dough. This will offer a great fat content and a cheesy explosion! My top choice is American cheese.
    • For an egg-free alternative, spray dough lightly with cooking oil or butter.
    • Give your hot dogs varying expressions for a fun touch.

    FAQs

Here are a few common questions that I get about my keto mummy hot dog recipe. If you have any more questions, please leave them for me in the comments.

    Are hot dogs keto?

Hot dog ingredients are normally filled with high-carb ingredients and other nasty fillers you don't want in your keto diet. For a safe alternative, always opt for 100% beef hot dogs.

How do you wrap a hot dog mummy?

Wrap hot dogs in a low-carb pastry dough, rolled thin, and cut into ¼-inch strips.

A keto-friendly pastry dough will use low-carb alternatives like almond or coconut flour instead of wheat flour.
