Green eggs may not sound very appealing, but when the color comes from avocado, you know it's got to be good.

This recipe for spicy keto deviled eggs is perfect for sharing as a fun appetizer at holiday parties or on game days! They are so delicious that others may not even notice they are made without mayo but with avocados instead (unless you tell them.)

Ingredients Needed For Keto Deviled Eggs

These deviled eggs are incredibly creamy but with a lot more heat.

Here are the ingredients you need to make them:

    Eggs

For this recipe, you will need to make a batch of hardboiled eggs. If you don't have time to make your own, you can use pre-made hardboiled eggs from the grocery store!

    Avocado

I used one diced up avocado to make the deviled eggs. This is what gives the deviled eggs the creamy texture without having to use mayo.

    Bacon

On the keto diet, you should always use bacon that is made without any added sugar. I used 3 strips of bacon, but you can use as much (or as little) as you want.

    Lime Juice

I prefer using fresh lime juice because it has more flavor. In a pinch, some jarred lime juice will also work.

    Peppers

Within the deviled eggs, I used a diced habanero pepper. Then, I added jalapeño slices for a garnish. If you don't want them to have as much heat or spice, you can omit one (or both) of the peppers.

    Spices

For the spices, use a combination of garlic powder, sea salt, and cayenne pepper!

Please note: Check out the recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients used to make this low-carb recipe.

    Quick Tips:

    • Use a mini ice cream scoop. The easiest way to transfer the filling to the cooked egg whites is to use a mini ice cream scoop. It's mess-free and makes them all look the same.
    • Use older eggs. Eggs that are closer to their expiration date are easier to peel.
    • Transfer eggs to an ice bath. After the eggs are finished boiling, transfer them to a bowl with ice water. This will help stop the cooking process and make peeling quicker and easier.
    • Whip yolks first. Before you add the avocado or spices, whip the egg yolks completely. If you do, the filling will be extra creamy and soft.

How To Make Deviled Eggs Without Mayo

All of the instructions are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. First, here is a quick overview with step-by-step pictures.

I do have a regular recipe for making deviled eggs; however, I never follow a recipe when making this appetizer.

It's so easy- you don't really need one! I just mash up the yolks with a fat, like mayo or avocado, and then season to taste.

However, it's good to have a guide on what to use. It's wise to refer to a recipe, but tasting as you go is the best way to make it perfect.

Just be sure that you don't add too much spice if those you're serving to don't like the heat. I often make two batches - one mild and one hot.

    Hard Boil The Eggs

The very first step is to hard boil the eggs. If you have a pressure cooker, follow my pressure cooker eggs recipe! It doesn't take very long.

You want the eggs to be hard-boiled, not soft-boiled.

Then, peel the eggs and separate the yolks from the whites.

    Make The Filling

In a large mixing bowl, mash up all the ingredients together. You should be able to do this by hand, but using an electric mixer is really easy too.

    Fill The Deviled Eggs

The last step is to scoop the filling and add it to the egg whites. Add some jalapeno slices for garnish. Serve and enjoy!

What To Serve With Keto Deviled Eggs

These deviled eggs are ideal at your next party with other spicy or Tex-Mex foods. I'd serve them with my favorite pressure cooker paleo white chicken chili and a low-carb chicken enchilada casserole.

Also, you can enjoy them with some keto tacos as well!

Frequently Asked Questions About Keto Deviled Eggs

The recipe is just a little further below but first, here are some questions people often ask about my recipe:

How do you store deviled eggs?

Regular deviled eggs with mayo last 2 days in the refrigerator. However, my keto deviled eggs with avocados will only last 1 day. They taste the best fresh!

After about a day, the texture will change and they are not as appetizing.

Can I use any type of mayo with this recipe?

I personally only like to use mayo that is made with avocado oil.

The problem with most mayonnaise is that it's typically made with soybean oil. So, if you're avoiding soy, you'll want to avoid anything made with soybeans as well.

Also, vegetable oils become rancid easily so it's best to avoid all of them. You can use olive oil and or coconut oil to make mayonnaise too.

When making coconut oil mayonnaise, it's best to use another oil as well. Avocado, olive, or MCT oil are the best choices.

But, when it comes to making deviled eggs, you can do without the mayonnaise. Just give my spicy keto deviled eggs without mayo a try and you'll be sold!

Are these deviled eggs really spicy?

It can be, depending on your spice level.

This recipe uses habanero peppers so they have a bit of spice, but not too much. Also, the added slice of jalapeño doesn't add much spice either but it really dresses up the look.

    More Keto Appetizer Ideas

If you enjoyed this keto deviled eggs recipe, here are some more low-carb appetizers you will like too. They are really popular at parties!

    • Keto Taco Dip is as spicy or mild as you make it, but it is always a hit at large gatherings.
    • Gluten-Free Coconut Shrimp are crispy with a hint of sweetness.
    • Easy Crab Dip With Cream Cheese is tasty, even if you don't normally like seafood.
    • Keto Air Fryer Jalapeno Poppers have lots of spice with the same cheesy deliciousness that makes them a favorite party food.
    • Air Fryer Fried Pickles are so addicting because they are crunchy with a surprising zest!

Would it work to use guacamole instead of a fresh avocado?

That should be fine and would add additional flavor.

How long can the devil eggs be in the fridge? Will the avocado get ugly? I want to use this recipe for my meal prep, so can they last for 5 days and still be fresh or eatable?

The avocado color may darken in the fridge, but adding a little more lime or lemon juice can help prevent some of that.

Did you use raw bacon in that video? It sure doesn't look cooked!

I didn't, but when I make them, I overcook the bacon because I like it crispy. No one should ever use raw bacon in deviled eggs.
