    Keto salt and vinegar wings

Salt and vinegar wings are a popular restaurant appetizer, but it’s easy to make them at home. And there’s no need to fry the wings in oil to get them crispy! Baking or air frying works just as well with less mess.

There are so many great flavor combinations to use for chicken wings. Buffalo seasoning with its blend of vinegar, cayenne, hot sauce, and butter seems to be the most popular. But it tends to be really messy.

After making my air fryer Buffalo wings, I knew I had to come up with a few more recipes with other flavors. And since salt and vinegar cucumber chips are one of my favorite keto snacks, I decided to try the seasoning on air fried wings.

How to season wings with salt and vinegar

The salt and vinegar seasoning for wings can be added either before or after the meat is cooked. If you have the time, you can marinate the meat in a plastic bag for several hours inside the refrigerator.

Since I didn’t have the time to wait for the meat to marinate, I chose to toss the wings in the seasoning mixture after cooking. This adds the flavoring to each piece which is similar to how salt and vinegar chips are seasoned.

How to make Salt and Vinegar Wings Quickly

The fastest way to make chicken wings is deep frying, but I don’t care for the mess. That’s why I’d rather use an air fryer. You don't have to use a lot of oil for crispy browned wings when air frying. And it’s a faster cooking method than baking.

To start, place the wings in a large bowl with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Then rub the oil and seasonings onto each piece.

Then place the seasoned wings into a lightly oiled air fryer basket in a single layer. The great thing about air frying is that you only use a small amount of oil and there’s no need to preheat like oven baking.

It takes less than 30 minutes to fully cook the wings in an air fryer. Once cooked, remove the wings and place them into a bowl of salted vinegar. Then toss to coat each piece with the flavoring.

Although I use apple cider vinegar, restaurants usually use malt vinegar. You can use any type of vinegar so choose the one you prefer.

    Making the Wings Extra Crispy

The last step is optional. But I find that broiling the salt and vinegar chicken wings after coating helps make them a bit crisper.

So I like to place them on a rack over a baking sheet and place them under the broiler for a couple minutes. This really helps, especially if the wings get a little soggy after the soaking the in the salted vinegar.

Serving the Salt and Vinegar Wings

People often enjoy wings as an appetizer. But there’s no reason why they can’t be the main dish! They go well with coconut flour biscuits and a loaded cauliflower casserole.

But when serving them as a snack or appetizer, be sure to include a sauce for dipping. Just like Buffalo chicken wings, you can dip these salted vinegar flavored wings into blue cheese dressing or a keto ranch dressing.

    Ingredients

    • 2 pounds chicken wings
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
    • 2 teaspoons salt divided
    • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
    • 1 ½ teaspoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

    Instructions

    • Toss together chicken wings, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, and ½ teaspoon salt in medium bowl until chicken is evenly coated in seasonings.
    • Place wing in a single layer on baking rack or in air fryer basket. For oven, bake at 400°F for about an hour, flipping halfway. For air fryer, cook at 360°F for 25 minutes, flip wings then continue cooking at 400°F for 4 more minutes.
    • While wings are cooking, combine remaining salt and vinegar in another medium bowl. Once wings are fully cooked, toss them in the vinegar mixture to coat. The wings can be broiled for 1 to 2 minutes to crisp them up if needed.
    • Garnish with parsley if desired.

    Notes

As an appetizer, the wings go well served with blue cheese dressing or ranch dip.
If you have more time, the wings can be marinated in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before cooking to soak the flavor into the meat before cooking instead of doing it after. Or, you can double the amount of marinade and use half for marinating and the other half to soak in after cooking.
The calculated sodium is much higher than actual as not all of the salt is used on the wings.

It says how long, but what are you marinating in? Just the vinegar? Or spices, salt and oil?
      Confusing.

This was excellent! Only my second time making salt and vinegar wings in my air fryer. Your recipe is spot on! Dipping the cooked chicken in the salt and vinegar mixture is genius! Definitely a keeper!

Used the air fryer and malt vinegar, I didn't use the broiler as they were crispy enough with the air fryer and I forgot to marinade prior so I was pleasantly surprised they turned out perfect! Will definitely be making again. 🙂 Thanks for sharing Lisa!

Walmart used to have these already fixed where they seek their fried chicken and dI used to get them and they were delicious, and then they quit selling them, and I was so disappointed. So I tried to fix them, but didn't have a recipe or anything, and they didn't come out very good. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw your recipe, and can't wait to try it. The ones at Walmart had a sweetness to them, so I will put a little splenda in mine and let you know how they turn out. Thanks, and looking forward to seeing your other recipes.

You state that marinating the wings is an option, then fail to say anymore about it. Weak.
